Warriors of a Greyer area

The first time I’ve ever heard the phrase “Social Justice Warrior” uttered out of anyone’s mouth, it was for a place an time where social justice was not needed.

It more or less had something to do with video games.

So because of that, my understanding of it is being ‘a made up phrase’ that children use to express their annoyance towards people standing up for others. It used to be something like “white knight” but that is a phrase exclusively for boys. White Knight is outdated. If I’m not mistaken the fundamentals, opinions, and self esteem of the white male is actually no longer a thing that people listen to.( If only because we know how much women can stand up for themselves)

But as well as feminism, the internet has since evolved into a war zone for minorities. Continue reading

ED 16 – directionless

How do you know when you don’t want take the path that you’re currently on? When you finally choose that path at the fork in the road, do you get that itch it’s not the right one?

And then from that point, do you keep walking down it or do you turn around and try the other one?  Continue reading

Art Party March 30/14 “painting self into the corner”

Maybe the rampant insomnia is a little worrisome when put into a live speaking position. That’s probably how I should have felt today after a couple of weeks (give or take) with zero amount of sleep on my internal clock.

Instead of trying to rationalize an answer of some sort, I’m just going to throw some salt over my shoulder and say “It is what it is.”

So the art jam can go on.. Continue reading

A business deal virtually about reality

Mark Zuckerberg sat at his desk. Choosing the best pictures to upload to his Facebook profile that makes him look like a pretty cool guy. Since it’s inception, the social media website has been a carefully meticulous ploy to boost his own self esteem.

Nobody would have suspected that Facebook got as big as it did. Yet, nobody would have suspect millions of people to willingly be depressed in front of their electronic devices for the rest of their lives as well. He’s made piles of money from his investors taking data from millions of personal lives, and he’s had more than he’s ever wanted.

But he knew it wasn’t enough.

Two ‘Business types’ enjoying a walk.

It’s been two weeks since we’ve been on a walk together, hasn’t it?

In that time, we’ve learned so much, we’ve seen many things. Read stories about protests, wars, missing planes, and celebrities that do the darnedest of things.

It’s time for us to once again, heed that call of our shoes. Put them on, And take those steps to enjoy the world around us. Share a conversation of sorts.

Other people playing white people playing other people

“Is she the right person to play a Native American princess?”

That is the first sentence that pops up, when talking about Roony Mara in an article of the daily mail. In case you haven’t heard (which seems impossible at this point.) Rooney has been cast to play Tiger Lily in a live-action adaptation of Peter Pan.

The internet, which usually partakes in shit-storms on a daily basis, took to this one. Shooting words left and right, heck! Felicia Day’s got a hand in there! To put it simply, they cast a white person to play a native american.  Continue reading

I was #normcore 13 years ago.

“Michael, there are people that dress like comedians, and there are people that act like comedians… You? You dress like one.”

That sentence was one of the earliest memories I had of my friend Rob. A conversation out of the blue as I was driving around my hometown with three other friends, as we were looking for something to do.

In my defence for my younger days, (and probably now as well… I guess) my family has spent more time dressing me than I have. Clothes that I personally don’t care for, but it’s better to wear anything than to run about naked in a cold/wet Canadian hole in the wall. Continue reading

Sundays will probably get a whole lot artier.

At least, that’s the theory.

It’s no secret that I’ve been brainstorming a lot here and there for things to do on idealoclast ever since I’ve made that patreon page. I’m not shying away from the fact that I do take this stuff in a serious stride. It’s a fun stride and I do what I can, but when I have to juggle a show along side writing for a living, it does burn me out here and there.

Unless I’m doing something for funsies. Continue reading
