a show of shows – ED15

Set up of the second episode of the Speakeasy Panel show.

Usually when trying to start a show that you want to perform in front of an audience, the entire process is much more difficult that you’d imagine it to be in the beginning. Continue reading

Tonight is what Fallon will show.

“I did it. I’m finally here.”

Jimmy Fallon looked at the crowd from behind the curtain, holding back all of his excitement and a nervous bladder. He did something that seems so impossible to do: Be the host of the tonight show.

Words couldn’t properly express how he felt about this moment. ‘Thank you. I love you.’ kept rolling around in head as the show was about to start. He thought about everything that came before him, a tear trickled down his face as he starts to recall the events that transpired. Continue reading

straight outta purgatory

15 years is a long time when you think about it. I mean it normally is a long time, I don’t think anyone could argue it not being… But when you put it into the context of a new Cibo Matto album, you might turn your head to a side slightly, squint, and a deep inward voice will just say ‘huh’.

It’s probably because I have no real sense of time.

I originally discovered Cibo Matto in the game ‘Jet Set Radio Future‘ for the Xbox, (probably around the time they’ve disbanded.) and didn’t actually acquire Viva! La Woman and Stereo ★ Type A until a year later. So my enjoyment of the band was a little more than ‘late to the party.’

But looking back at it, I probably came in at the right time. As soon as I became entranced by both albums, I got enough of a fill of everyone’s solo pursuits at the same time. Yuka Honda going into a direction you can describe as an entry level Yoko Ono (given that Sean Lennon was one part CB, I guess it’s a no brainer), and Miho Hatori just pursuing whatever seems to interest her. Shia LaBeouf is probably an actual cannibal.

He wakes up groggy, after another late night of typing ‘I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE’ over and over again in his twitter feed. He’s done this for some time thanks to the ever leering public, that keeps reminding him that he’s screwing up.

This morning he tries something different.

‘WHY DO SEAGULLS FLY OVER THE SEA?’… submit.

Shia gets up from the pool of his own sweat that was once a bed and puts on a nearby t-shirt. He gurgles orange juice in his mouth that’s been sitting outside of the fridge since Wednesday. Dips a tooth brush into a bottle of Jack Daniels and proceeds to brush his teeth.

He’s a busy person today. Continue reading

#mimeme

There’s a lot of people out there, that may not know how to properly express things with words. Years have proven that us, as everyday human beings, have a hard time conveying the things we really want to say. Sometimes our hellos slip-out into a conversation that is suddenly compared to nazi’s before you even get around to introducing yourself.

It’s important to love yourself, no matter what happens.

Sometimes you can have a day where everything goes wrong. You could break your hand on a paper weight as you ruffle through work documents, which probably wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t get a paper-cut. Sometimes when you change the bottle of water on the cooler you accidentally spill a little and now it looks like you’ve wet your pants. It’s actually important to get the coolers that allow spill safe caps. If you have to take the cap off to put it on, accidents always happen.

Just yesterday this old lady gave me a can of chunky soup, which is a beautiful gesture from a woman that thinks I’m dying of hunger. When I put the groceries on the kitchen counter, the soup fell out of the bag and landed on my foot. Ow, right? Now I have a sore toe with blood build-up and broken dreams.

Sometimes you want to get a cool gift for a baby that isn’t going to remember you because they’ve just been born. Their minds are developing. Wouldn’t it be great to get them something so amazing, that they keep hearing about this uncle they never see that just hands out awesome gifts? Then years later, you visit family again and the baby has learned how to walk and talk. When you go to introduce yourself, “Hello Mr./Ms. Baby, I’m your uncle.” They will just say “OH.”

That baby has judged you right then and there, and you can believe you bought a plane ticket to be baby judged!

Nostalgia Crutch

I am a fan of the Ninja Turtles. I’ve been just as big a fan of it in my adulthood, as I’ve been in my youth. But I suppose I make it pretty obvious. I keep finding myself watching cartoons, movies and reading comics about those ‘renaissance mutants’, and I share from time to time that TMNT is still pretty cool.

But I also know when it’s not for me. There’s plenty of times in the franchise’s history when something about it was atrocious, dare I say blasphemous. But every iteration is open to whatever kind of story it wants to tell. It’s never been 100% consistent on it’s 29 years of existence, with retcons, reboots, and loose interpretations all over the place.

The new Nickelodeon cartoon is doing quite well, and they really try the hit those nostalgic notes of the franchise while telling the story in their own way. The problem is Michael Bay’s live action interpretation of the franchise is never going to be what anyone will want it to be. Continue reading

The Patreon campaign

patron_highres-1-1024x256

You might notice the link in the right column of this website. That is a very important link, and one that I want to point out to my various subscribers and people that come and go to the site.

I’m starting a Patreon campaign to help continue doing what I love to do, a good chunk of it means running this website. Writing about news, things around the internet, taking pictures and videos in different and interesting ways.

Since I’ve started doing this in September, I’ve had every intention to use this space full time. But since September, the website has it’s highs and lows when content gets created. At best the Let’s Walks are something I will continue to commit to every Tuesday / Thursday, but I’m always ready to evolve and take the next step to find fun ways to do things that make sense for me and the website. (I’ve had more that a couple of ideas come to mind already. Look for those in the coming weeks.) I want to continue to be engaging and conversational no matter how ridiculous or controversial the topic may be, and I continue to encourage you as readers to engage just as much, wether it’s a like/ a reblog/ retweet or a reply.

Having a patreon campaign does not hinder the content of idealoclast, I will continue to trek on and run it. but with the help of patrons, idealoclast can be a much bigger and better experience.

Aside from the link that will forever be in the right column, you can check out the campaign page here.

I’ve put a lot of real thought into it, I will work hard to make the content reflect what I want to show with patreon.
